Every season over 3,000 local students attend our matinees and participate in special post-show discussions with members of the company. This shared encounter with live theatre—a rare opportunity for many of our students—encourages a deeper connection between Shakespeare's art and their modern experience.
We offer approximately 30 student matinees at discounted prices each season. The performances are not abridged or adapted; they are the same high-quality, professional productions seen by our evening audiences. They are attended by a geographically and socio-economically diverse student audience and are followed by a guided talkback with the actors and led by the Director of Education. These lively discussions allow students to ask questions or comment on the performance and often provide the artists with valuable insight into the impact of their work on young people.
Check back for next season's student matinee dates. Please note that most matinees sell out early. Please contact Lucy Tobin, Director of Education, at 215.496.9722 or at lucy@phillyshakespeare.org for availability.
