2016-2017 Classroom Residencies

Get your students excited about learning Shakespeare with our popular Artist-in-Residence program. We’ll help you make Shakespeare’s work come alive in your classroom and introduce key theatrical concepts to your students. One of our highly trained Teaching Artists (professional actors and directors) will transform your classroom into a great Shakespearean stage, engaging your students with in-depth activities and our specially designed curriculum to explore and enhance their understanding of Shakespeare and his plays.

Over the course of a week, students will perfect their scenes using intensive theatre training sessions such as: character development, period movement, fight combat, and performance preparation. Our performance-based curriculum has been expertly created to inspire and involve the whole class in crucial aspects of Shakespearean performance, based on theatre arts elements, and aligned with Pennsylvania State and National Common Core Standards for reading, performance, and literary interpretation. Each residency is supplemented with optional projects, investigations, and assignments that integrate with and extend The Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre’s curriculum.

Residencies are available for the following plays:

Hamlet
Macbeth
Othello
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
The Taming of the Shrew
Julius Caesar
Romeo & Juliet
Much Ado About Nothing
