Educational Philosophy
At The Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival we believe that understanding and appreciating dramatic literature and participating in the theatrical experience are fundamental to the humanizing process. Attending a performance of a play offers a unique experience to witness our shared humanity in a communal setting. Human behavior is the basis of dramatic and theatrical exploration, and playmaking probes the personal experience and presents the truest reflection of life. Therefore, it is central to our mission to provide opportunities for students to participate in this important work of personal growth and to inspire a lifetime of learning. The Open Door Project
The Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival's Open Door Project provides learning opportunities for audiences that enhance their appreciation of the timelessness of Shakespeare's plays. In addition to student matinees, post-show discussions with company members, and in-school residencies, we also provide teacher workshops and direct Shakespeare productions for young people.
