As You Like It, you might say it was Shakespeare’s antidote to Hamlet. He wrote the two plays within a year of each other. And as our scholar-in-residence Annalisa Castaldo says, “They share many of the same themes and theatrical devices: the usurping brother; the abandoned daughter; characters in disguise; characters as audience.” But of course, As You Like It is the comedic side of the coin. We see the same themes resolved in an opposite and often hilarious fashion. When we experience both plays in repertory, each shines a unique light on the other, and each is so much richer than it could be alone.
Watch our time lapse video! See our crew change the set from Hamlet to As You Like It!
