In 2014, our beloved Bard will turn 450, and to celebrate The Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre is partnering with the Free Library of Philadelphia and other regional partners to bring you a whole year of exciting programming with Year of the Bard: Shakespeare at 450. Every month, The Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre will bring a new event, including interactive performances, special performances, and our mainstage production of Romeo and Juliet, directed by David O'Connor! ROMEO AND JULIET
Accompany these young lovers from their first blissful kiss, to their final parting words as the mechanizations of the outside world devour them in this first-class production by award-winning director, David O’Connor.

AND, WELCOMING AKALA: FOUNDER OF THE HIP-HOP SHAKESPEARE COMPANY IN LONDON
The Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre hosts a week of lectures, performances, and educational programming featuring London-based artist Akala, and the works of London’s Hip-Hop Shakespeare Company. Hip-hop artist and Ted X presenter Akala engages and educates young people, particularly those who are considered “hard to reach,” through his innovative workshops. With his unique brand of Shakespeare hip-hop, he will teach young people in Philadelphia to develop new skills, creating powerful new work to be performed throughout the city.
